A major success for Munich’s young football talent: Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium has won the 2026 NFL Flag Girls National Championship Germany, thereby qualifying for the NFL Flag Championship Europe in London. The title once again underscores the strong growth of flag football in Munich—and demonstrates how sustainably the NFL is promoting the sport in Germany.

Munich Girls Prevail in the Final

The best school teams in Germany faced off at the Final Five tournament in Hamburg. In the championship game, Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium defeated Gymnasium an der Koblenzer Straße from Düsseldorf to be crowned the 2026 German NFL Flag Girls Champion.

With this tournament victory, the Munich girls will represent Germany at the NFL Flag Championship Europe as part of the NFL London Games.

Flag football is growing rapidly

The NFL Flag Girls League was launched just last year—and is already growing impressively. After two pilot leagues at the start, the league system was expanded to five regions in 2026. A total of 230 girls born between 2011 and 2013 participated in the second season.

The Munich league, run in partnership with the Kansas City Chiefs, has now even produced the German champion in the form of Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium.

Munich is emerging as a hub for flag football

The success of Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium demonstrates the significance flag football has now achieved in Munich as well. The city is not only the host of the 2026 NFL Munich Game but is also increasingly becoming an important hub for the next generation of American football players.

Through initiatives like NFL Flag, the league is generating enthusiasm for the sport at an early age and specifically nurturing the next generation of players.

The Olympics are getting closer

Flag football is currently experiencing a huge boom worldwide. Another milestone will be the IFAF World Flag Championship in Düsseldorf this August. There, the world’s best national teams will compete not only for the world championship title but also for two direct qualifying spots for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

For many young talents, this journey begins right where the Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium has now made history—on the flag football field.
