Munich Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium to represent Germany at NFL Flag Championships in the USA

A team from Munich on the big stage: Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium will represent Germany at the NFL Flag Championships in the heartland of American football.

Munich youth on their way to Canton, Ohio

The NFL Flag Championships are considered the most prestigious international tournament in flag football – and in 2025, a team from Munich will be competing. Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium qualified at the U14 NFL Flag final tournament in Düsseldorf and will now represent Germany in Canton, Ohio. From July 17 to 20, around 300 teams from the United States and eight international school teams will compete.

The tournament will include teams from Australia, Canada, China, Great Britain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Germany. Games will take place at the stadium next to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the birthplace of American football. For the Munich players, it’s a very special journey: They will experience football up close in its homeland and go head-to-head with the best youth teams in the world.

Flag Football becomes Olympic - and Munich is part of it

Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium’s participation is more than a sporting achievement, it’s a symbol of the growing popularity of flag football in Germany. The contactless version of American football now excites over 20 million people worldwide and will become an Olympic sport in 2028. The NFL supports the development of flag football in Germany, through school programs supported by DKB. 

That a Munich school serves as a national flagship team shows the city’s great potential. Flag football promotes teamwork, speed, and inclusivity, and is open to everyone. With their efforts on and off the field, the Munich players are representing not only their country but also a new generation of football.
